5 Tips For Using A Chillum
Are you looking for a new way to smoke and have been interested in using a chillum? If so, you may not know how they work. A chillum is a glass tube that has a place where you can pack your herbs, and then a small hole where the smoke passes through and the herb does not. The smoke then travels through a runway where you then inhale it. Here are some tips for using a chillum if you have never used one before.
Pick the Right Kind Of Chillum
There are various types of chillums out there, and while they all work with the same concept in mind, they are built a bit differently. If you are just starting out, you'll want to buy a chillum that has a bowl that sticks upward and a fairly long runway. This will allow you to keep everything upright so that your herb doesn't fall out of the bowl and to keep your hands away from the bowl as you light it.
Pack The Chillum Properly
A chillum is best used by packing it with the herbs you want for a single smoke session. This is not something that you just keep repacking as you go. You can pack it as tightly or as loosely as you want, just as long as it stays in the bowl of the chillum. You'll want to grind your herb before packing it in the chillum.
Get Ready To Light
Put your lips on the runway end of the chillum before you start lighting. This will help form a seal so that the smoke doesn't escape after you light it. Hold the chillum at a part that is far away from the bowl so that it doesn't get too hot to the touch while you are smoking.
Light The Bowl And Inhale
As you take a flame to the bowl where the herbs are located, you'll want to inhale so that you can breathe in the smoke through the runway. Remove the flame from the bowl after you inhale so that you do not waste any of the herbs. You may be able to get a second inhale afterward if the herb is still hot. Keep repeating until all of your herbs are gone and no longer producing smoke.
Clean The Chillum
The best way to clean a chillum is to empty out the burnt herbs and clean out the bowl with isopropyl alcohol. Since it is made out of glass, it is a safe way to clean and sterilize the chillum between uses. Just make sure that all the isopropyl alcohol has been rinsed out when finished.
